Doug Watkins defeated Debra D. Helton in the March 20 Special Election for the District One seat on the Washington County Board of Commissioners.
Watkins received 53 percent of the votes, or 427 votes total; Helton received 47 percent of the votes, or 378 votes total.

The Special Election was held to fill the vacancy on the Washington County Board of Commissioners created by Commissioner Larry G. Mathis’ resignation earlier this year.
