Over 3,000 eggs were collected by children ages two to 10 years of age during the 2018 Easter Egg Bash held at the Washington County Recreation Department on Saturday, March 24.

According to Jamie Brindell of the Washington County Recreation Department, an estimated 300 people attended this event that was organized by the Recreation Department and Bless the City.

This is the second year that the Washington County Recreation Department and Bless the City have partnered on this project. Bless the City is a community event facilitated by local churches and businesses. The purpose is simple: to bless the city without any strings attached or expectations.

The Easter Bash began with the Easter message shared by Pastor Melinda Waller of Victory Central Church.  Children gathered in a circle to hear “The Easter Story Egg” which was written and illustrated by Natalie Ard. The book tells the story of why we celebrate Easter.

“I love how this story tells all about Easter,” said Pastor Melinda Waller. “Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the bunny, but we need to take a moment, to stop and remember what it is really about.”

Following the Easter message, children gathered on the various fields at the Washington County Recreation Department for the Easter egg hunt.

“On your mark; get set; GO!” shouted Jamie Brindell of the Washington County Recreation Department.

Children raced across the fields to gather eggs filled with candy as well as slips of paper that signified a prize was available.

In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the event featured music, inflatable bouncy houses and slides, games, crafts, food, snow cones and a special visit from the Easter Bunny.
