CAROLYN COOK DIXON

Mrs. Carolyn Cook Dixon, age 84, of West Adams Street in Tennille, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 26th at 4:00 p.m. at Tennille Christian Church with burial in Zeta Cemetery.  Reverend Hal Taylor will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Michael Dixon, Sonny Barksdale, Wright Barksdale, Charles Floyd and Kyle Watkins.

Mrs. Dixon was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late William Estus Cook and the late Lenise Roberts Cook.  She was a graduate of Tennille High School and Georgia State College for Women with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Mrs. Dixon began her teaching career in Tennille in 1952 and retired as a longtime and beloved third grade teacher from Brentwood School in 1995.  She and her husband Nick were active and faithful members of Tennille Christian Church.  Mrs. Dixon was an avid bridge player and a former member of Tennille Women’s Club.  Her husband, Nicholas E. “Nick” Dixon and her son, Nick Dixon Jr. both predecease her.

Survivors are her son, William M. Dixon of Blythe; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and her sister, Jacquelyn C. Floyd and her husband Lyn of Greenville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at Tennille Christian Church.
