Mother Walean Hunter Clark was born November 5, 1939 to the parentage of Alonzo and Lillian Hunter. She was one of thirteen children. The early years of her life were spent in Washington County, Georgia where she attended and graduated from T. J. Elder High School. In 1958 she moved to Atlanta where she met and married James H. Clark, Sr., to that union were born two children James Jr. and Bridgette.

At an early age Walean joined and was baptized at Zion Hope Baptist Church.  Later after moving to Atlanta she would join St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in 1977 under the leadership of Reverend Pete Sellers.  She was a faithful and active member for many years and served as the Secretary of the Evangelist Wanell Highsmith Women’s Unity in Christ.  She also served in many positions in the church: Team Captain of the Annual Birthday Club Fundraiser, as a member of the Kitchen Committee, preparer of First Sunday Communion, Senior Choir Secretary, Vice President of the Senior Usher Board and President of the Mothers Board.

Walean was in employed at the Sunshine Department Store in Atlanta, Georgia for many years and later in her career she became a dietician for Wesley Woods where she would retire from after 28 years of service.  Although she accomplished many things during her lifetime, her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  An amazing cook and baker she shared her gifts with everyone! She was also a woman with a green thumb, her plants (which she called her babies) made her happy.  On Wednesday, January 30, 2019 God gave her wings while surrounded by family.  Mother Walean H. Clark will be truly missed.

Walean was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo and Lillian Hunter, five siblings, Mozelle, Alonzo Jr., Tommy, Roselyn, & Geraldine.

Those awaiting to see her again and cherish her graceful presence: her children, James H. Clark, Jr. (Jameelah) and Bridgette Clark Duncan (Eric); a devoted companion, Deacon John Fleming; six grandchildren, Brandy, Asia, James III, Ameer, Brittany, and Devin; three great-grandchildren, Joelle, Montrel, and Nicholas; brothers, Wille Bob Hunter (Roberta), Larry Hunter (Mattie), Leon Hunter, Ken Hunter (Bridgette); sisters, Winnelle Jackson, Audrey Wright, Alvon Hunter, one sister-in-law Martha Ann Hunter, one brother-in-law Harvey Brint, Sr.; one uncle, John Cason; one aunt, Rose Cason and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Zion Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Clifford Hunter officiating. Interment was held in teh church cemetery.
