JESSIE HAWKINS SAMMONS

Mrs. Jessie Hawkins Sammons, age 92, of Gibson, died Thursday, February 21, 2019 in an Augusta Hospital.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  Reverend Mark Stewart and Reverend Clarence Thompson will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Gregory Hawkins, Gary Hawkins, David Hawkins, Tommy Hawkins, Jamie Hawkins Jr., Kevin Reese and Mike Lyons.

Mrs. Sammons was a native and lifelong resident of Glascock County, the daughter of the late C. Oliver Hawkins and the late Zeddie Butler Hawkins.  She was a retired seamstress with the Thomson Company, and she was a member of Griffin Chapel Baptist Church.  Mrs. Sammons loved being outdoors working in her yard and with flowers.  She relished spending time with her family and loved to travel.  She was an active participant with the Gibson Senior Center, and she is predeceased by her infant son, Bobby Larry Sammons, great granddaughter, Amber Michelle Phillips and siblings, O.C. Hawkins and his wife Johnnie, Sharkie Hawkins and his wife Mazana, Jamie Hawkins Sr., Harold Hawkins and his wife Linda and Carolyn H. Reese Morgan and her husband Aubrey.

Survivors are her daughter, Rhonda S. Phillips; grandson, Ricky R. Phillips and his wife Ann all of Gibson; great granddaughter, Shelby R. Phillips of Sandersville; brother, R. F. “Ronnie” Hawkins of Missouri; and sister-in-law, Gloria Hawkins of Edgehill.

The family will be at the Phillips residence on West Main Street in Gibson and the will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
