BERNARD LAMAR “B.L.” BROWN, JR.

Mr. Bernard Lamar Brown, Jr., age 79, of Sandersville, died on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 9 at Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Tennille with burial in Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Reverend Lamar Brantley and Reverend Danny Rountree will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Joe Kitchens, Stacy Kitchens, Jim Kitchens, Shawn Jordan, John Hollie, Joey Harris, Jeff Alligood, Andrew Amerson and Wayne Poole.

Mr. Brown was born on July 11, 1939 to the late Bernard Lamar Brown, Sr. and the late Frances Pounds Brown Cook.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Waters and a sister, Evelyn Kitchens.  He loved the Lord, his family and his church.  Saved as a twelve-year-old boy at Sisters Baptist Church, he had many good teachers and role models.  Later he joined First Church of the Nazarene where he taught junior boys, served as Sunday School superintendent and church board secretary.  In 1999 he became a charter member of Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene where he served as Sunday School superintendent and church board secretary for the last nineteen years.  He worked for the Arcade Theater and Piggly Wiggly while in high school and was a long-time employee of Georgia Kaolin Company.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sue Wheeler Brown of Sandersville; son, James Brown and his wife Della of Sandersville; daughters, Laura Mitchell of Sandersville and Julie Jones of Milledgeville; step children, Scott West and his wife Courtney, Shannon Watkins and her husband Danny and Sharyn Wiggins and her husband Brian; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother, Ricky Brown of Tennille.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, 316 East South-Central Ave., Tennille, Ga. 31089
