Z. Eugene Veal, age 91, of Sandersville, died on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Heritage Inn following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 10 in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Bert Parker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian McNeely, Joe Sewell, Steven Poole, Zackiery Smith, Mark Veal, Chris Powell, Terry Torrez and Tommy Peeler.
Mr. Veal was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Burlie Washington Veal and the late Dora Webb Veal. He was the husband of the late Sara Jacquelyn Powell Veal. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Beverly Veal. Mr. Veal was a retired supervisor for Washington Electric Membership Corporation with over twenty-seven years of service. He served as a Lieutenant on the Sandersville Volunteer Fire Department and was a past president of the Washington County Jaycees. He was a member of Sisters Baptist Church.
Survivors are his daughters, Lynn Veal Woodall and her husband Charlie of Tennille and Donna Veal Smith and her husband Jack of Sandersville; grandchildren, Brian Eugene McNeely, Anna Leigh Sewell, Carla Lynn McNeely Poole, Zackiery Powell Smith and Ryan Derryl Frost; great grandchildren, John Payne Sewell, Kimsey Grace Sewell, John Kimsey McNeely, Julianna Marie McNeely, Grace Elizabeth McNeely, Matthew Logan Poole and Joseph Hendrix Sewell; and sister, Opal Rhodes of Sandersville.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Heritage Inn of Sandersville for their excellent care and concern for Mr. Veal while serving as his caregivers.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
