Mr. J.W. Hilliard, Jr., age 73, of Richmond Street in Sandersville, died Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in an Augusta Hospital.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Davisboro City Cemetery.  Reverend Lee Lacey and Minister Marlon Lastinger will officiate.   Pallbearers will be Wayne Frost, Chris Tanner, Bill Jackson, Ken Jackson, Chad Clark, Ronnie Dorman, Richard Welch and Gary Bussell.

Mr. Hilliard was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Jess W. Hilliard Sr. and the late Louise Ingram Hilliard.  He was retired from Imerys after 34 years of service in the Kaolin Industry.  Mr. Hilliard served his country in the Georgia National Guard.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville and he loved to travel, especially to the beach.  In retirement, J.W. worked for Dorman Dodge and he was a regular at the Wendy’s coffee club.  He is predeceased by his first wife, June Jackson Hilliard and his brother Walter Hilliard.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Hall Hilliard of Sandersville; children, Leigh H. Barrett of Tennille, Jess W. Hilliard III and his wife Brandi of Warthen and Jack W. Hilliard and his wife Jennifer of Sandersville; step children, Kelly Sanders and her husband Kevin of Toccoa, Bubba Brantley and his wife Sheryl of Statesboro, Kimberly Baucom and her husband Dwaine of Linton and Patrick Brantley and his wife Jenny of Harrison; grandchildren, Sydney Barrett, David Whitling, Dalton Hilliard, Abby Hilliard, Grayson Hilliard, Jack Hilliard, June Marie Hilliard, Easton Sanders, Khloe Sanders, Brayden Brantley, Aubrey Brantley, Ella Baucom, Wyatt Baucom, Colton Brantley and Kinsley Brantley; and siblings, Paulette H. Cobb and Chris H. Griffith and her husband David all of Sandersville.

The family will be at the Hilliard residence on Richmond Street and they will receive friends on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
