Mrs. Sybil Lorene Hayes Davis Ponder, age 86, of Sandersville died on Saturday morning January 4, 2020 at Heritage Inn following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, at 2:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville.  Reverend Bobby Williford will officiate.  Interment will be in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.  Pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Eric Davis, Shane Davis, Curtis Johnson, Russell Sanders and Michael Avrett.

Mrs. Ponder was a native of Walton County, Georgia, the daughter of the late John Henry Hayes and the late Nellie Reed Morell.  She was the widow of the late William Thomas Davis, Jr.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Linda Farmer, Robbie Lee and James D. Hayes.  Mrs. Ponder was a retired store clerk and attended the Kendall Heights Church of God.

Survivors are her four sons, William Ray Davis of Sandersville, Roy Thomas Davis of Sandersville, James Troy Davis of Sandersville and Cecil Davis and his wife Penny of Tennille; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Bishop of Bethlehem; and a brother, Johnny Hayes  and his wife Carol of Blairsville.

The family will be at the residence of Cecil and Penny Davis, 994 Waco Mill Road in Tennille and will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. Tuesday until the hour of service.
