Mrs. Virginia Burgamy Ivey, age 83, of Sandersville, died on January 29, 2020 in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 1st in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial at Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery.  Reverend Roger Holley will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Blanton Lingold, David Brannen, Kenny Swan, Adam Swan, Rick Waddell, Chad George and Christian George.

Mrs. Ivey was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Herbert Jefferson Burgamy and the late Lois Virginia Hodges Burgamy.  She is the wife of the late Roger Gamble “Scooter” Ivey, Jr. and was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Burgamy. Mrs. Ivey had been employed as a laboratory technician with Washington County Hospital and a secretary at Geo. D. Warthen Bank. She was a homemaker and a member of Sisters Baptist Church.

Survivors are her son, Michael Roger Ivey and his wife Donza of Sandersville; daughter, Claire Ivey Souter and her husband Voyne of Sandersville; grandchildren, Emily Ivey Lingold and her husband Blanton  and Michelle Ivey Brannan and her husband David; sisters, Juanita B. Askew and her husband William of Bartow and Betty Grace B. Swann and her husband Alvin of McCormick, SC.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Friday. The family suggest donation be made to Sisters Baptist Church, 1807 East McCarty Street, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
