Mr. Phillip Lamar Stephens, age 78, of Sandersville, died on Monday, May 25, 2020 following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 28 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery on County Line Road following social distancing practices. Reverend Tony Mimbs will officiate. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in numbers of 10 or less at may and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mr. Stephens was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Melvin C. Stephens and the late Edith Reynolds Stephens. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Bentley Brooks. He was a retired insurance agent with Trans America Insurance Company. Mr. Stephens attended the Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are his wife, Marie C. Stephens of Sandersville; daughter, April Ursula Stephens of Sandersville; step daughter, Carla M. Washington of Sandersville; grandson, Phillip Colton Brooks of Sandersville; and brother, James Stephens of Sandersville.
