Mr. James “Jim” Benjamin Smith, age 76, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020. A graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 1:00 P.M. at Davisboro City Cemetery in Davisboro GA.

He was born July 6, 1943 in Sandersville, Georgia, the son of the late Paul Walter Smith and the late Maude Downs Smith. Mr. Smith loved spending time with his family, playing golf, fishing, and was an avid UGA football fan. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Douglasville, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. He was also a faithful member of the Men’s Wednesday Bible Study. Mr. Smith retired in 2018 after 50 plus years in the insurance industry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Walton Smith.

He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Gail Wynette Lamb Smith of Douglasville; his children, Laurie S. (William Todd) Thurston of Ware Shoals, South Carolina and James Benjamin “Ben” (Valerie) Smith, II of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his sister, Gloria (Randy) Harrison of Canton, Georgia; his brother, Earl (Carol) Smith of Greensboro, Georgia; and grandchildren, Caleb Thurston, Emilie Faith Thurston and Kylie Grace Thurston.
