The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community, no matter the size, no matter the location. There is still time to shape the future of Washington County by completing the 2020 Census.
As of September 22, the national self-response rate was 66.2 percent. In Georgia, the self-response rate is slightly lower than the national rate with 61.8 percent responding. In Washington County, 47.8 percent have responded to the 2020 Census. During the 2010 Census, Washington County had a response rate of 60.1 percent. Currently, Washington County ranks 116 out of 159 counties in its response rate to the 2020 Census.

- Baldwin County: 111th with 48.1 percent
- Glascock County: 94th with 51.9 percent
- Hancock County: 159th (last) with 26.7 percent
- Laurens County: 74th with 55.5 percent
- Jefferson County: 87th with 52.5 percent
- Johnson County: 102nd with 50.3 percent
- Wilkinson County: 108th with 49 percent
The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts.
The 2020 Census will mark the 24th time that the country has counted its population since 1790.
