Washington County Commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Dexter Wansley to the Washington County Regional Medical Center’s Hospital Authority at their Thursday, October 8 meeting.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained that Wansley is well-known throughout the County.

Wansley recently retired from the Washington County Public School System where he served as Principal for Ridge Road Primary School. Wansley worked in the school system for 39 years.

“Chairman Jim Croome thinks he’ll be a great addition to the Hospital Authority,” said County Administrator Peebles. He added, “Mr. Wansley seems like a great person.”

Commissioner Frank Simmons moved to appoint Wansley to the Hospital Authority; Commissioner James Hitchcock seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.

After voting on the appointment, Commissioner Frank Simmons remarked that Dexter Wansley is a “great man.”

Washington County Commissioners also voted to purchase a front load dumpster trailer for the County’s Road Department.

Public Works Supervisor Gary Waller explained to Commissioners that the dumpster truck used by the Road Department needs to be retired.

“It’s just about worn completely out,” said Public Works Supervisor Waller.

Rather than purchasing a new truck that costs between $90,000 and $100,000, Public Works Supervisor Waller recommended purchasing a trailer that can be used to move or haul the dumpsters in the County.

The heavy-duty front load dumpster trailer costs $7,749.

“I think this will help us out and serve the community well,” said Waller.

Chairman Horace Daniel commended Waller for saving money for the County.

Commissioner Frank Simmons moved to proceed with purchasing the dumpster trailer; Commissioner Doug Watkins seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.
