The Washington County Chamber of Commerce is preparing shoppers for the holiday season with “Shop Small Saturday” on November 28.

“We’re promoting our small businesses that are Chamber members,” said Chamber President Katie Moncus.
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce will serve as a welcome station on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Swag bags filled with goodies from local merchants will be distributed to the first 100 participants.

Businesses that provided items for the swag bags include: Geo’s Quarters, Perkins Handyman Services, Merle Norman, Pagoda Paper, Deep River Outfitters, Edward Jones, The Market on Central, Sears, Moye’s Insurance, Southern Ethos Wealth Management, Anytime Fitness, State Farm, Keith McDonald Plumbing, The Sandersville Georgian, and Clinic on Call.

“The shoppers can come to us first, and we’ll give them a tote bag so they can go and visit all the businesses and restaurants around town,” said Moncus, adding, “This is a fun day where we promote all things LOCAL.”

The Shop Small Saturday movement was created by American Express in 2010 to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small, local businesses. According to American Express, Shop Small is a nationwide movement to celebrate small businesses every day and to help communities thrive and stay vibrant

In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of Shop Small Saturday, and officials in all 50 states participated.
