A new year is bringing new excitement to the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

During the Wednesday, January 27 Chamber’s annual meeting, held virtually this year, Washington County Chamber of Commerce President Katie Moncus explained that the Chamber is excited about the new year.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to analyze what worked last year and what didn’t, and keep moving forward,” said President Moncus.

Dianna Armstrong was introduced as the incoming Chairperson of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. In addition, Chamber President Moncus welcomed five new Board members – Sid Cheatham, L.M. Pierce, Nicole McClarin, Jeremy Andrews, and Matthew Turner. These five Board members will serve three-year-terms.

“We’re excited to have them on the Board,” said President Moncus.

The 2021 Chamber Ambassadors were also announced; they include: Tanya Jolley of Oconee Fall Line Technical College, Chris Hutchings who is retired, Franklin Pate of Citizens Bank of the South, Geri Clements of Oconee Fall Line Technical College, Teresa Hines of The Sandersville Georgian, Taylor Everett of WACO 100, Gerri Brantley of Southern Ethos Wealth Management, Penny Grice of Helton Electric, and Ashely Turner of Horace Mann.

“These are the hands and the feet of the Chamber of Commerce,” said President Moncus when recognizing the Ambassadors. “They help us get it done.”

During the annual meeting, President Moncus also discussed the Broadband Taskforce that was formed last year.

“We’re trying to identify if this is an issue in our community, and if it is an issue, we want to identify ways we can make high speed internet available to our citizens in the community,” said Moncus.

Currently, the Broadband Taskforce is formulating a survey for all citizens in Washington County.

“We need everyone to take this survey to understand if there are pockets in the Washington County community that need broadband and don’t have access,” said President Moncus. She added, “This is the first step for the Taskforce to understand how to move forward.”
