The Washington County Board of Education appointed Randy Mayberry to represent District One on the Board at their Thursday, February 4 meeting.

Chairman Chris Hutchings noted that this term is to fill the unexpired term of Paul Turner who resigned at the Thursday, January 7 meeting. This term runs through December 31, 2022.

As reported by WACO 100, Turner submitted a letter of resignation to Washington County School Board Chairman Chris Hutchings on January 7, explaining that he and his wife were moving, and their new home would be located outside of District One.

“It’s been an honor to serve with the other members of the Washington County Board of Education and with the Superintendent,” said Turner during last month’s meeting. He added, “We have always maintained a Board of high integrity with one goal in mind, and that is to serve the students of this county to the very best of our ability, delivering excellence in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts.”

The Board unanimously voted to appoint Randy Mayberry to represent District One following an executive session on Thursday, February 4. Probate Judge Russell Sheppard administered the oath of office to Mayberry following the Board’s unanimous vote.

Mayberry is a life-long resident of Washington County. He is a graduate of Washington County High School.

“I received a wonderful education because of people who invested in the young people in this County,” said Mayberry.

Following high school, Mayberry graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.B.A. in Finance. He earned his M.B.A. from Georgia College.

He and his wife, Cathy, who is a former teacher and administrator in the Washington County School System, have two daughters Dr. Jennifer Mayberry Sasser of Brandon, Mississippi, and Susan Mayberry Cooper of London, England. Both daughters are graduates of Washington County High School.
