Washington County Commissioners have a lengthy agenda for their Thursday, February 11 meeting.

As previously reported by WACO 100, Commissioners did not meet during the month of January due to a rising confirmed COVID-19 case count.

During the Tuesday, February 9 workshop, Commissioners heard from Georgia Hi-Lo Trail Executive Director Mary Charles Howard. She discussed the Georgia Hi-Lo Trail’s goal to establish a paved multi-use trail for use by locals and tourists for bicycling, walking, and running for people of all abilities. Howard concluded her presentation with a request from the County to help fund the creation of a Comprehensive Master Plan. The total cost of the plan is $120,000; however, that cost will be spread among eight counties, cities within those counties, and private sector funds. No decision was made at the workshop.

Washington County Road Superintendent Gary Waller reported that the Road Department is trying to keep up with the rain; he stated that he’s heard requests from citizens in the County, and asked that the county bear with them until the weather improves.

Chairman Horace Daniel echoed Superintendent Waller’s remarks, saying that the Road Department is doing a good job, and roads will be repaired.

Washington County Commissioners will hear from Scottie McCoy at their Thursday, February 11 meeting. McCoy plans to discuss the loaded trucks traveling on South Sparta Davisboro Road.

Agenda items for the Commissioners to consider at their meeting include the following:

– Bond refinancing

– An ordinance to become a Broadband Ready Community

– Intergovernmental agreements concerning inmate housing

– Three appointments to the Washington County Recreation Board

– An Elections agreement with the City of Oconee

– Bids for the roof replacement on the Elections Building

– A request from Thiele Kaolin Company to realign Adams Road

– An agreement renewal for the 4-H shotgun range

The Washington County Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 11 at 9 a.m.
