The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The grant, which will continue through September of 2021, will outfit nine patrol vehicles with new up-to-date laptop computers, docking stations, and printers. These updates will allow deputies to do their reports, run driver’s license and vehicle information, locate addresses, and access Georgia Crime Information and Georgia Accident Reporting, all from inside the patrol vehicle, allowing deputies access to more information aiding the public on calls of service.
“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact that almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”
“These funds are critical in ensuring that we are doing everything we possibly can to keep our local community safe,” Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran said. “We are committed to working with our partners at the state level to address these safety issues, and the first step to accomplishing this mission is providing our deputies with the necessary tools they need to work safely, efficiently, and effectively.”
It is Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s mission to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits while providing professional law enforcement services. To attain this, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office enforces the law fairly and impartially, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. The Sheriff’s Office recognizes that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without supportive input from the citizens it serves. The Sheriff’s Office actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to reduce and limit the opportunities for crime and facilitate the maximum use of resources.
