Washington County Commissioners discussed the current county road construction projects at their Thursday, April 8 meeting.

Public Works Supervisor Gary Waller provided the update regarding the county-maintained roads.

News Bridge Road was scheduled to reopen by Friday, April 9. This road was closed from Highway 231 to Wrightsville Riddleville Road for culvert replacement.

“It won’t be paved over yet, but the road will be back open,” said Waller.

Thompson Road between Shurling Davis Road and Sunhill Harrison Road at the creek area remains closed for culvert replacement. Public Works Supervisor Waller stated that contractors won’t finish repairs until the week of April 12.

Eastlake Drive located off Transylvania Drive is one lane traffic for culvert replacement. Repairs are scheduled for completion during the week of April 12.

In addition to current projects, Public Works Supervisor Waller also addressed upcoming road projects.

Mayview Road at Kittrell Creek is scheduled for closure on April 19 for culvert replacement. Public Works Supervisor Waller stated that they anticipate the closure to last approximately three to four weeks. The detour will include either Walker Dairy Road or Kittrell Creek Road. Waller called this a “fairly big project.”

“It’s not a good detour, but we appreciate the folks just working with us on that,” said Waller. He added, “I know it’s going to be an inconvenience, but we’re going to get it reopened just as quick as we can.”

Riddleville Mt. Moriah Road at the Little Ohoopee Creek will be closed beginning April 19 for culvert replacement.

McCoy Pond Road at McCoy’s Pond/Tippie Branch will also be closed beginning April 19 for culvert replacement.

“We plan to start April 19 if everything works out with the weather,” said Waller.
