Mrs. Edna Earl Huckaby Lewis, age 85, of Sandersville passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family following an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 4:00 P.M. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery Cemetery. Reverend Larry Glover will officiate.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Brooks, Fayette County, Georgia to the late Eva Lillian Turner Huckaby and the late James Clarke Huckaby. She was raised in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia where she played a forward position for the Putnam County Blue Devils Girls’ Basketball Team throughout her high school years. Edna was a retired Insurance Agent with Wayne Lewis Insurance Agency, a member of Washington County Historical Society, and a member of Sandersville United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Georgia Jaycettes Sandersville Chapter, and served as Chapter President in 1964. In more recent years, she volunteered weekly at the Washington County Historical Society Genealogy Research Center & Old Jail Museum. She contributed largely to the Cemetery Records of Washington County, documenting countless cemeteries in the County, loving every minute of it. She also enjoyed arrowhead hunting on a back road in her spare time.

Mrs. Lewis is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Edison “Blackie” Lewis, Jr.; mother, Eva Lillian Turner Huckaby; father, James Clarke Huckaby; and sister, Nell Huckaby Campbell.

She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Leigh Lewis (Dr. Tommy A.) Joiner of Flagler Beach, Florida, Rita Elaine Lewis (Johnny C.) Chambers of Sandersville, and Sherry Ann Lewis Watkins of Macon; four grandchildren, John Ryan Chambers of Madison, Dallas Nicole Joiner of Miami, Florida, John Derek Watkins of Savannah, and Johnna Elaine Chambers (Brian Martin) of Sandersville; one great-grandson, Mason Hunter Watkins of Colorado; a niece, Lisa Roberts of Eatonton; a nephew, Brad (Kelli) Roberts of Milledgeville; and two loving caregivers, Catherine Harris of Warthen and Shirley Heggs of Sandersville.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, April 24 from 3:00 P.M. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
