Mrs. Nellie Welch Alligood, age 66, of Davisboro, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at her residence following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the White Oak Church with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Lamar Brantley and Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. Pallbearers will be William Horton, Ralph Chandler, Brent Palmer, Andy Welch, Charlie Welch, Dan Alligood and Paul Anderson. Members of the Davisboro Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Nellie was born in Laurens County and reared in the Downs Community of Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Clay Welch and the late Nolie Poole Welch. She graduated from Brentwood School and began her working career as a seamstress for the William Carter Company prior to becoming a full-time homemaker to raise her children. Nellie served her community as a First Responder with the Davisboro Fire Department, where she was active with the ladies’ auxiliary. She was a lifelong member of the White Oak Church and helped operate her family-owned business, The Hitchin Post Restaurant, also in Davisboro. Nellie loved to hunt, fish, crochet, and cross-stitch.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, William Alton “Al” Alligood Sr.; children, Michele Anderson and A.J. Alligood both of Davisboro and Ben Alligood and his wife Marcianne of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Noah Tyler Alligood and Allana Summer Anderson; and siblings, Norman C. Welch and his wife Ann of Sandersville, Harriett Cowart and her husband Tommy and Beryl McNeely all of Davisboro.

The family will be at the Alligood residence on Highway 88 in Davisboro. They will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
