Washington County Commissioners provided six recommendations for the Sandersville School Building Authority at their Thursday, June 10 meeting.

County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained that the terms for four of the current Authority members expires on June 30 of this year; those members include: Gene Renfroe, Susan Lewis, Randy Mayberry, and Shaun Veal.

According to the Authority’s bylaws, the County Commissioners must provide at least three names for the vacant seats. County Administrator Peebles stated that this equated to six recommendations.

County Commissioners unanimously voted to recommend the following individuals to the Sandersville School Building Authority: Scott Ferguson, Bobby Jackson, Susan Lewis, Randy Mayberry, Gene Renfroe, and Shaun Veal.

Four days following the Commissioners’ vote to recommend the six individuals, the Sandersville School Building Authority held their monthly meeting. During that meeting, Authority member Randy Mayberry provided Sandersville School Building Authority Chairman Gene Renfroe with a letter of resignation.

In his letter, Mayberry explained that he was recently appointed to the Washington County Board of Education as a board member, and that role requires a significant amount of time and energy. He went on to state that he respectfully withdraws his name from consideration for an additional term on the Authority.

“I appreciate everyone’s efforts and determination that have gotten this project far, and I wish everyone much success in seeing it through to be the asset to the county that it was envisioned to be upon the creation of the Authority,” wrote Mayberry whose resignation is effective July 1, 2021.

The Sandersville School Building Authority accepted Mayberry’s resignation; they voted to reappoint Gene Renfroe, Susan Lewis, and Shaun Veal to the Authority.

The Authority will approach the County Commissioners for an additional recommendation to consider, along with the two prior recommendations of Scott Ferguson and Bobby Jackson, for the one vacant seat on the Sandersville School Building Authority.
