Mr. Delma Lamar Godfrey, age 59, of Macon, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. A private graveside funeral service will be held to celebrate Lamar’s life. Reverend Charles Carter, Reverend Lee Hencely, and Reverend Fred Reese will officiate. The family asks for the observation of social distancing practices.

Lamar was a native of Washington County and reared in Oconee. He was a graduate of the Washington County High School, starting his working career with Millers Food Store and the Washington Manufacturing Company, prior to beginning a 26-year career in the Kaolin Industry with Englehard as a laboratory technician. Following his time in kaolin, Lamar worked as a mechanic for Gilmer Industries. In retirement, he would often perform plumbing, electrical, or carpentry work for friends and family. Lamar loved studying history and participating in civil war reenactments. He was an active biker, and loved to hunt, fish, and go mud-bogging. Lamar was an ordained minister and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Twiggs County. He was instrumental in the start of a park ministry in the Central City Park of Macon to spread the gospel and aid those in need.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Woodard Godfrey of Macon; sons, Christopher Lamar Godfrey of Milledgeville and Robert Bryan Godfrey of Oconee; grandson, Logan C. Godfrey; and his parents, Delma Jewell and Kathelene Yates Godfrey of Oconee.
