Contraband consisting of a drone, batteries, lighters, charger cords, charging blocks, cellphones, SD card, tape, rolling papers, marijuana, and tobacco were discovered on the roof of Washington State Prison over the weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The Georgia Department of Corrections noted that a drone was seen flying over the facility in Davisboro, leading to a search of the facility grounds.

In a news release from Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, he explained that Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with an individual near Washington State Prison early Sunday, October 10.

The individual was identified as 28-year-old Tony Bearnard Brown of Macon.

According to Sheriff Cochran, while Deputies were investigating, a drone landed on a deputy’s patrol vehicle.

“It was determined that the individual, along with others, were attempting to make a contraband drop at the prison,” said Sheriff Cochran.

Tony Bearnard Brown, 28, of Macon was arrested and charged with conspiracy items prohibited for possession by inmates; conspiracy crossing the guard lines with drugs; and conspiracy possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Brown was transported to the Washington County Jail.

According to Sheriff Cochran, this arrest was made in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force.

Sheriff Cochran explained that other arrests are possible pending further investigation by the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force.

The Georgia Department of Corrections’ Office of Professional Standards maintains a database concerning contraband investigations and arrests. Since July of 2010, the GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,574 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
