The Washington County Chamber of Commerce is preparing shoppers for the holiday season with “Small Business Saturday” on November 27.
“We’re promoting our small businesses that are Chamber members,” said Chamber President Katie Moncus.
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce will serve as a welcome station on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon. Swag bags filled with goodies from local merchants will be distributed to the first 100 participants.
“The shoppers can come to us first, and we’ll give them a tote bag so they can go and visit all the businesses around town,” said Chamber President Moncus, adding, “This is a fun day where we promote all things LOCAL.”
The Shop Small Saturday movement was created by American Express in 2010 to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small, local businesses. According to American Express, Shop Small is a nationwide movement to celebrate small businesses every day and to help communities thrive and stay vibrant.
In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of Shop Small Saturday, and officials in all 50 states participated.
Saturday, November 27 also serves as the official kick-off of the second annual “Chamber Cookie Crawl.” Cookie tins will be available for purchase at the Chamber of Commerce from 9 a.m. until noon during the Shop Small Saturday event; they will also be available during normal business hours at the Chamber of Commerce during the event dates.
The Chamber Cookie Crawl takes place from Saturday, November 27 – Saturday, December 4. After purchasing a cookie tin, you’re encouraged to visit each participating location during their normal business hours to select a sweet treat to fill your cookie tin. Participating locations include: Country Financial, Glow Boutique & More, Helton Electric (visit the Chamber of Commerce), The Ditzy Gypsy, The Lodge Meat Market, Merle Norman, Anytime Fitness, Summit Ace, Deep River Outfitters, and The Market on Central.
