Washington County Commissioners plan to provide three recommendations for the Sandersville School Building Authority (SSBA) at their Thursday, December 9 meeting.

As previously reported by WACO 100, the SSBA currently has one vacancy on the Authority; the Commissioners provide the Authority with three names of potential members, and the SSBA ultimately votes on the individual to fill that vacant seat.

Commissioners plan to vote on three recommendations on Thursday; the SSBA will hold their regular meeting on Monday, December 13 to consider those recommendations for appointment.

In other news, the Commissioners will also consider a resolution concerning opioid litigation. County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained during the Tuesday, December 7 workshop that the County joined the class action lawsuit several years ago, and this resolution will allow the County to be included in settlements reached.

In addition, Commissioners will also consider bids for the flooring installation at the Washington County Tax Commissioners’ building.

As previously reported by WACO 100, Washington County Commissioners voted to purchase new flooring for the Tax Commissioners’ building on Jones Street at their Thursday, October 14 meeting.

Prior to voting on the new flooring, County Administrator Dustin Peebles explained that a water line burst in September and flooded approximately 75 percent of the building.

“There was three to four inches of water in some places,” said County Administrator Peebles.

The carpet in the Tax Commissioners’ office sustained water damage; County Administrator Peebles noted that the carpet was old, and this was the second time that particular location had undergone water damage.

“It was best that they go ahead and pull it up,” said County Administrator Peebles.

Commissioners ultimately voted to purchase flooring for the building in the amount of $22,481 from Sandersville Builders Supply. This did not include the installation of the flooring.

Two bids were received for installation of the new flooring – from Willie the Painter and from Dyer Construction.

Other items to be discussed by Commissioners include: a resolution concerning hazardous waste funds, the purchase of furniture for the Elections Office, the 2022 Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG) projects, and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) language access plan.

The Washington County Commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 9 at 9 a.m.
