Sandersville will join cities across the state of Georgia in celebrating Georgia Cities Week from Sunday, April 24 through Saturday, April 30.

Georgia Cities Week is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association and set aside to recognize the many services that city governments provide while contributing to a better quality of life.

The 2022 Georgia Cities Week theme, “Shaping the Future,” encourages constituents to reflect on the role cities play in Georgia’s history, economy, and culture.

“City government is truly government of, by, and for the people,” said Sandersville Mayor Jimmy Andrews. “The people who are making the decisions about our community are your neighbors, business owners, and community leaders. We are in this together, and we want our city to thrive.”

According to the Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia Cities Week gives cities the opportunity to do the following:

– Share information about the valuable services that cities provide to residents, including a look into city operations and how cities positively impact their quality of life

– Highlight successful community projects and infrastructure enhancements

– Connect residents with one another

– Build or improve working relationships with state leaders and legislators

In its 23rd year, Georgia Cities Week is also an opportunity to celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers or city employees. Last year, more than 160 cities participated in some manner.

“We recognize that throughout our lifetimes, the average person will have more direct contact with local governments than with state or federal governments,” said Mayor Andrews. “Because of this, we feel a responsibility to ensure that the public knows how the city operates and feels connected to their city government.”
