Mr. Thomas Wade “Tommy” Rachels, age 76, of Burdett Street in Tennille passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at on Tuesday, March 28th at 2:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Zeta Cemetery of Tennille. Reverend Mark Jones and Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Rachels was born and reared in Tennille, the son of the late Ernest James Rachels, Sr. and the late Mary Fields Rachels. He was a graduate of the Washington County Public Schools and began his working career at Millers Foods Store while in High School. Tommy was a professionally trained barber and cut hair throughout his life. Mr. Rachels formerly worked for the Georgia Natural Gas Company and Washington EMC, retiring as a Warehouse Manager. He was known as an avid and dedicated walker. Tommy enjoyed collecting antiques. Mr. Rachels is preceded in death by his siblings, Juanita Rachels Criswell and Ernest “Ernie” Rachels, Jr.
Survivors include his siblings, Sonny Rachels and wife Connie of Sandersville and Edna Rachels Frame of Sandersville; and several nieces and nephews.
