A year after her initial appointment, the City of Sandersville will seek to replace their first City Manager.

Sharon Eveland resigned from her position earlier this month during a February 4 called meeting.

Last year, the City opted to adopt the role of City Manager. It much resembles a County Administrator role.

A city manager is hired and directed by the elected city council. While the position is not an elected role, the city manager still serves the public.

As the top appointed official in the city, they are typically responsible for a majority of the administrative operations and expectations for the municipality, essentially serving as chief executive officer for the city.

Last week, the Sandersville City Council unanimously accepted Eveland’s resignation following two hours of deliberation in their closed session.

Returning to regular session, Mayor Jimmy Andrews announced the resignation stating that Eveland cited personal reasons. The separation is effective immediately.

The City of Sandersville will pay Eveland seven months of severance salary at her current rate of pay, compensate her for accrued vacation and sick time, and provide health benefits for up to six months.

In a statement issued by the City, it described the resignation as the result of a difference in opinion as to management style.

A Georgia native, Eveland assumed the role of City Manager in April of last year. She previously acted as City Administrator in Clintonville, Wisconsin and Village Administrator in Shorewood Hills, Wisconsin for a total of 7 years. Prior to her work in local government, Eveland served in the United States Navy as a Military Linguist and Intelligence Analyst.

Sandersville Mayor and Council thanked Eveland for her work in helping the City with continual efforts to improve for the betterment of its employees and residents, wishing her the best in future endeavors.
