W. C. Daniel Honored for 33 Years of Service
Sandersville Mayor and Council recognized W. C. Daniel for 33 years of service to the City of Sandersville at their Feb. 6 Council meeting.
Daniel served on the City’s Planning and Zoning Board from 1979 until Jan. 1, 2012. He also worked part time with the City as the assistant building inspector from 1992 until 2005.
Mayor Jimmy Andrews remarked that Daniel was instrumental in the development of the City’s zoning maps and the creation of the 911 address database while serving on the Planning and Zoning Board.
Daniel also participated in writing the City’s sign ordinance.
“I enjoyed all the time,” said Daniel. “We made a lot of progress.”
In other news, concerned citizen Eloise Turner addressed Council regarding a recent incident at one of her rental properties. She stated that a police officer kicked down her door and questioned who would repair the door. She also reported loitering taking place beside her home. Sandersville Police Chief Victor Cuyler stated he would look in to both issues.
Council voted to approve the purchase and implementation of a financial management software program for city services from Tyler Technologies in the amount of $211,255. Mayor Andrews remarked that the City checked with other cities and it was highly recommended.
Council voted to reappoint Nancy Tarbutton to the Library Board for a three year term.
Mayor Jimmy Andrews was designated an authorized official to communicate decisions to Electric Cities of Georgia. Mayor Pro-tem Jeffery Smith was named the alternate.
Council adopted a resolution to adopt the joint Washington County Service Delivery Strategy for a period of 90 days and authorized submittal to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. City Administrator Judy McCorkle stated that the extension is needed to finalize details. The original 90 day extension will end as of Feb. 28, and this adoption of another 90 days will assist in completing the service delivery strategy.
A memorandum of understanding was executed with the Georgia Department of Transportation for the State Route 242 at Waco Mille Rd./S. Hospital Rd. The City was awarded grant funding to assist with the project leaving about $26,285 to pay for engineering. City Attorney commended the City for the grant, and noted that the grant saves the City approximately one quarter of a million dollars.
Council approved the abandonment of handicap parking spaces on Brookins St. and E. Haynes St.
An agreement was also approved to allow the City’s participation in the Workforce Investment Act for a period of six weeks.
In regards to repairs to Well #11, Council approved the low bid from Graves Water Services, Inc. for $20,600 for a replacement pump and motor.
Low bid was approved in the amount of $17,103.41 from Cobb & Cobb Seed Company for land application at the Helton Farm.
Low bid was also accepted from CHB Acquisition Services for preparation of cost estimates for the purchase of right of ways for the 2009 TE Project in the amount of $2,500.
Council also approved a fundraiser for the Sandersville Animal Shelter.
Sandersville Council will hold their next meeting on Feb. 20 at the Council Chambers located on Malone St. Working session begins at 4 p.m. and regular session begins at 5 p.m.
