
Mr. Thomas Wayne “Tommy” Thompson, age 66, of Sandersville died on Friday October 18, 2019 at his residence following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M, on Monday October 21 at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Riddleville Cemetery. Reverend Tony Mimbs and Reverend L. T. Logue will officiate. Pallbearers will be Chase Dunn, Luke Lindsey, Logan Pinion, Seth Lindsey, Jim Brake, Chris Brake, Patrick Brake, Christopher Smith and Tristan Smith.
Mr. Thompson was born in Baldwin County, Georgia, the son of the late Marvin H. Thompson and the late Mary McCoy Thompson. He had lived in Hancock County while growing up but has lived in Washington County many years. He was a Sergeant with the Georgia Department of Corrections, serving over twenty-four years. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church and was Chairman of the Deacons. He was the friendly greeter and usher for the church. He was a member of the Dixie Senior Golf Association and played a round every Monday and Wednesday. Mr. Thompson served for six years in the Georgia National Guard.
Survivors include: his wife, Glynda Moats Thompson of Sandersville; a daughter and three sons, Thomas Wayne “T.J.” Thompson, Jr. of Atlanta, Sherrie Thompson Josey and her husband Jarrod of Sandersville, Shawn Lindsey and his wife Angel of Jefferson and Brian Lindsey of Middleburg, Florida.; two sisters, Dianne Thompson of Eatonton and Patsy Thompson Brake and her husband James of Sparta; a brother, Ricky Thompson of Sparta,; ten grandchildren, Logan Pinion, Luke Lindsey, Chase Dunn, Tori Dunn, Tyson Josey, Trip Josey, Seth Lindsey, Justin Lindsey, Kelly Lindsey and Brianna Lindsey; two great grandchildren; brother and sister in laws, Jimmy and Carol Smith and Harold and Jeni Moats; and his beloved pets, Sam and Blue Boy.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday.
