Mrs. Odessie Cooper Boyd, age 91, of Tennille, died Friday, April 17, 2020 following an extended illness. A private, family only, graveside service will be held in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in numbers of ten or less.

Mrs. Boyd was born in Jenkins County, the daughter of the late Carlus Hugh Cooper and the late Mary Lou Hall Yates. She was an honor graduate of Tennille High School Class of 1946. Mrs. Boyd’s working career began in 1946 with the Southern Bell Telephone Company where she worked until 1965 when she accepted a position with Georgia Power. Mrs. Boyd retired from Georgia Power in 1989 as the office administrator for the Tennille office. During her time with Georgia Power, she served as president of the Dublin Chapter of Women of Georgia Power where she received the Mamie K. Taylor Award. Mrs. Boyd was a longtime member of Tennille Baptist Church where she served as secretary and treasury for many years and the Tennille Women’s Club where she formerly served as President and Treasurer. Her husband, Buford Oscar Boyd predeceases her.

Survivors are her son, Buford Randall Boyd and his wife Linda of Tennille; grandchildren, Charlton Randall Boyd of Tennille, Buford Allen Boyd and Stephanie Rose Boyd both of Sandersville; two great grandchildren, Jacob Bivings Boyd and Jadalyn-Blue Lenise Bruins.
