
Mrs. Mary Ellen Powell Davis, age 85, of Sandersville, died Wednesday, July 22, 2020. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with Reverend M.D. Cabe officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Davis was born in Warthen, the daughter of the late Roy James Powell and the late Sara May Powell. She graduated from Sandersville High School and worked as the office manager of Liberty National Insurance Company from which she retired. She along with her husband Bobby lived in Dublin for many years and the built and managed Big Sandy Plantation Hunting Lodge in Twiggs County prior to returning to Washington County to care for her aging parents. Mrs. Davis was a member of Sisters Baptist Church; she loved to travel and was affectionately called “Granny” by her grandchildren. Mrs. Davis is predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Davis Jr., daughters, Jacki Davis Sanders and Vicki Davis-Miguel, grandchildren, Matt Oglesby, Joel Sanders and John Sanders and siblings, Marie Powell, Jacquelyn Veal and Virgil Powell.
Survivors include her children, Robert E. Davis III and his wife Nancy of Evans and Traci Davis Dominy and her husband Tony of Sandersville; sister, Judy Frost of Sandersville; grandchildren, Chad Collins and Kelly Collins both of Warthen, Amanda Davis and Robert E. Davis IV both of Charleston SC., Davis Stine and Troy Stine both of Denver CO., and Jennifer Rockett of Atlanta; great grandchildren, Kaleb Sanders, Bryceton Sanders, Cullen Collins, Jackson Collins, Jasmine Collins, Natalie Collins, Kendall Davis and Mary Ellington Rocket; and son-in-laws, Joe Sanders and Ernst Miguel.
