
Mrs. Genette Cordry Mimbs of Sandersville, Georgia passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the age of 98. Funeral services will be held at Tennille Baptist Church on Thursday, December 24 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall. Reverend Dr. Brian Welch will officiate. Attendees are asked to follow CDC guidelines for social distancing. The wearing of face masks is required.
Genette, affectionately known as Mama Nette, was born in Johnson County, Georgia. She was the last of eight children to Irvin Augustus Cordry and Mattie Bell Cordry. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Sidney Simmons, Sr; her second husband, N. Russell Mimbs; her brother, Elmer Cordry; and her sisters: Lavada Tapley, Sally Martin, Linnie Dee Tapley, Maude Mixon, Gussie Bell Hodges, and Louise Smith.
Genette devoted much of her adult life to serving others as a healthcare worker in Sparta and Sandersville, retiring from the Washington County Regional Medical Center at the age of 75. She was a faithful member of the Tennille Baptist Church and very passionate about the power of scripture, reading her Bible every morning and night. Next to her faith in God, her family was her top priority. Genette’s daughters and their families meant more to her than anything.
She is survived by her daughters, WyVonne S. Chapman and her husband Jerry of Buford, Georgia, Joan Simmons of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Connie West and her husband Bob of Sandersville, Georgia; her grandchildren, Jerry Chapman Jr. and his wife Leanne of Bethlehem, Georgia, Angie Orem and her husband Scott of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Laura Kitchens and her husband Parker of St. Simons Island, Georgia, and Holly Grossman and her husband Matthew of Ponte Vedra, Florida; several nieces and nephews; her seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
