
Mrs. Sarah Solomon, affectionately known as “Chicken” or “Grandma,” departed this Earthly life on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in Brooklyn, New York. Graveside funeral services were held on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with Reverend Perry Davis officiating.
She was born on March 9, 1942 in Sandersville, Georgia to the parentage of the late Ms. Pinky Harden and the late Mr. Austin Taylor. Mrs. Solomon was a proud graduate of T.J. Elder High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, she made the bold decision to relocate to Philadelphia, where she worked as a waitress for a short period of time. She then opted to move to Brooklyn, New York, where she lived her remaining years.
Sarah loved her family and friends, always extending a helping hand to whomever needed it. She worked for the New York State Kingsboro Psychiatric Center for thirty five (35) years as a head cook. Upon retirment, ‘Chicken’ immediately ventured into the private sector, working for Five Block Daycare Center and later at Perfect Performers Daycare Center, where she became a teacher for twenty (20) years. The children loved and adored her with the upmost respect. Sarah’s favorite pass time was cooking. She was also a “Queen of the Sea,” loving to fish with Captain Greg and the Ocean Eagle V Family. Sarah loved gardening with her United Herkimer Garden Family for over thirty (30) years. She will be honored with a dedication service and plaque for her efforts. Sarah loved playing at a casino. She was always looking for her triple cherries, 7’s, bars, and the penny machine.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ms. Katherine Strozier, Mrs. Mattie Jordan, Mr. Andrew Taylor, and Mr. Austin Taylor.
Mrs. Solomon leaves to cherish her memories, her two daughters, Ms. Denise Solomon and Ms. Angela Taylor, Brooklyn, New York; two granddaughters, Ms. Chardonnay Gittens and Ms. Joy Taylor, Brooklyn New York; one great-grandson, Master Noah Ballard; one brother, Mr. Oscar Taylor, Atlanta; two sisters, Ms. Dorothy Singleton, Atlanta and Ms. Gloria Hood, Sandersville; a great-grand-puppy, Buttercup Gittens; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
