Mrs. Joyce Cox Hodges, age 88, of South Brown Street in Oconee passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Oak Leaf Village in Lexington, South Carolina. A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, May 2 at 1:00 P.M. in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery of Oconee. Reverend Tom Howard will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of the service on Monday in the Cemetery.

Mrs. Hodges was born in Central, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Joseph Carl Cox and the late Claudine Ellen Jenkins Cox. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from the Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville and was employed as a Middle School Teacher. Joyce was the wife of the late Lucien Eugene “Bud” Hodges. In her younger years, Mrs. Hodges enjoyed to bowl and play tennis. She was described as a social butterfly and spent her later years involved in a local “Bridge Club.” Joyce was beloved by her family as a loving and dutiful wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Hodges was a member of the Antioch Christian Church of Oconee. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her children, Lucien David Hodges and Mary Ellen Hodges.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hodges and husband Travis Stover of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great-granddaughter, Natalee Stover; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org/donate, or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, donate.lovetotherescue.org.
