Mr. Bernard Lamar “Buddy” Hodges, Jr. passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, January 4th at 2:00 P.M. in the Bay Springs Cemetery of Oconee. Nathan Hodges, Buddy’s grandson, will officiate. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Hodges was born on December 8, 1950, to the late Bernard Lamar Hodges, Sr. and the late Mary Tanner Hodges. He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. Buddy began his working career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Marion Snider and C.T. Harris Inc. before self-employment as an Autobody Repairman and Mechanic. Mr. Hodges enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He was regarded as a “jack of all trades” and possessed an affectionate smile. Buddy found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Hodges is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Fowler Hodges; and siblings, Barbara Elton, Vicki Blue, Greg Hodges, Beverly Hodges, and Debra Jean Hodges.

Survivors include his children, Bernard Lamar “Peewee” Hodges, III of Tennille, Ricky Hodges and wife Tonya of Sandersville, and Kelli Hodges of Tennille; grandchildren, Hailey Hodges Katz and husband Josh, Anna Hodges, Nathan Hodges and his fiancé Mallory, Ryan Hodges, Nicholas Patisaul, Averi Patisaul, and Lyric Hodges; great-grandchildren, Lizzie Hodges, Eli Matthews, Ila Matthews, and Jillian Katz; and brother, Bruce Hodges and wife Tammy of Sandersville.
