Mr. Roy Rogers Yarbrough, age 73, of Davisboro unexpectedly passed away on his birthday, Tuesday, January 31, 2023. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, February 3rd at 1:00 P.M. in the Bethany Baptist Church of Tennille with a military honors burial in the Church Cemetery. Reverend Brant Kennedy, Reverend Jarrett Burch, and Reverend Burt Dollar will officiate. Pallbearers will be Justin Coleman, Greg Marsh, Jody Mathis, Izell McGruder, Brandon Newsome, Thomas Michael Sims, and Codey Swann.
Mr. Yarbrough was born and reared in Davisboro, the son of the late J.T. Yarbrough and the late Bernice Cowart Yarbrough. He was a graduate of the Washington County High School. Roy proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy. Mr. Yarbrough was a long-time resident of Hephzibah, where he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 1579 and was employed at Plant Vogtle as a Welder. Roy returned to Davisboro in 1994 for work as a Forman with the Georgia Department of Transportation Gibson Office. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and growing tomatoes. Mr. Yarbrough cherished his family, loved caring for his dogs, and enjoyed passing time watching episodes of Gunsmoke. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Mathis Yarbrough.
Survivors include his children, Mike Sims and wife Margaret of Davisboro, Shawn Yarbrough and wife Shara of Davisboro, Chris Sims and wife Bonnie of Warrenton, North Carolina, and Deana Swann and husband Glenn of Davisboro; grandchildren, Brandon Newsome, Aaron Sims, Justin Coleman, Thomas Michael Sims, Codey Swann, Margaret Lynn Sims, and Kaylee Yarbrough; and brother, Wiley Yarbrough of Davisboro.
