Mrs. Leona Sheppard Rogers, age 62, of Laurel Drive in Sandersville passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 following a brief illness. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, February 8th at 2:00 P.M. in the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey and Mr. Mike Beckworth will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Dawson, Daniel Heldreth, Hank Heldreth, Matthew Heldreth, and Lindsey Meeks. The First Baptist Church Beckworth/Anderson Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Night Service Kitchen Volunteers will sit as Honorary Groups. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7th from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rogers was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Charles Edward Sheppard and the late Jean Miller Sheppard. She was a 1979 graduate of Brentwood School and soon-after married her high-school-sweetheart, Rhonie Rogers. Leona cherished her role as a caregiver to her husband, children, parents, and granddaughters. Mrs. Rogers was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville, active in her Sunday School Class and volunteering in the Church Kitchen during Wednesday Night Suppers. Her most favorite pastimes included traveling to the beach and mountains, watching the Atlanta Braves, and reading books.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Rhonie Rogers; children, Samuel Rogers and wife Kalen of Brooklet and Amy Rogers and partner Lindsey Meeks of Sandersville; grandchildren, Adleigh Rogers, Reagan Meeks, and Nina Rogers; siblings, David Sheppard and wife Mary Ann of Cartersville, Jessica S. Heldreth and husband Chuck of Sandersville, and Alan Sheppard and wife Mary Jo of Sandersville; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
