
Mrs. Jean Anderson Doolittle, age 90, of Oconee peacefully passed away at her residence while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 11:00 A.M. in Bay Springs Methodist Church Cemetery of Oconee. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Randall Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Johnathan Bailey, Lamar Doolittle, Ritchie Doolittle, Shane Doolittle, Tyler Martin, and Anthony Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Anderson, David Anderson, James Byrd, Eli Doolittle, Jimmy Doolittle, John Michael Doolittle, and Chris Mathis. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service at the Bay Springs Methodist Church of Oconee.
Willie Eugenia “Jean” Anderson was born in Oconee, the daughter of the late John D. Anderson and the late Bessie Lee Tompkins Anderson. Jean was reared in Oconee as a member of the Bay Springs Methodist Church. She also attended school in Oconee before graduating from the Tennille High School. Mrs. Doolittle then attended the Georgia Business School in Macon and worked at the Warner Robins Air Force Base. She later dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. Jean lived most of her adult life in the area of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was an active member. Later in life, Mrs. Doolittle returned to her homeplace in Oconee, continuing her lifelong love of growing and arranging flowers, especially Christmas cactus and geraniums. She held a passion for genealogy and volunteered much time assisting people with their family research. Jean was greatly considered a wonderful friend, often sought for her advice and counsel.
Survivors include her husband of over 66 years, Billy Doolittle; children, Gail Knight of Oconee, Leslie Mathis of Sandersville, and William Eric Doolittle and wife Susan of Johns Creek; grandchildren, Megan Hunter, Eli Doolittle, Tyler Mathis, John Michael Doolittle, Richard Doolittle, Shane Doolittle, Christopher Mathis, and Sean Knight; and great-grandchildren, Annie Doolittle, Wyatt Doolittle, Joshua Mathis, and Avery Mathis.
