Ms. Willa Jo Taylor Smith, age 84, of Sandersville passed away at her residence on Sunday, April 13. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Robin Spring Baptist Church of Sandersville. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery of Sandersville.
Visitation will take place on Friday, April 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the L.M. Pierce Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Washington County on July 8, 1940, the daughter of the late Herman Taylor, Sr. and the late Theresa Brookins Taylor. She was a proud graduate of the T.J. Elder High School. As a young adult, Willa Jo relocated to Newark, New Jersey, discovering a passion of caring for others and pursing a career in nursing. Mrs. Smith worked to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and dedicated many years of compassionate and professional service to her community. She was known among family and friends for her laughter, take-care-of-business attitude, and unwavering support for those she loved. Warm-hearted and giving, Willa Jo was also strong-willed and never afraid to stand her ground. A presence both comforting and commanding, Mrs. Smith left a lasting impression on all. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie James Smith; and siblings, Herman Taylor, Jr., Miriam Taylor, Ruby Gordon, Richard Taylor, and Ronald Taylor.
Survivors include her siblings, Herbert Taylor Sr., Donald Taylor and wife Kathleen, Linda Hagans, Brinda Dancy, Jackie Taylor, Sr. and wife Shirley, Ales Marion, Elijah Marion, Randy Barnes, and Marie Barnes; sister-in-law, Rae Taylor; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and close friends.
