Mr. Edwin David Irons, age 89, of Macon, died on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in Macon. A memorial service for Mr. Irons will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 13 in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille with Masonic Rites.  Dr. Gary S. Horton will officiate.

Mr. Irons was a native of Pawtucket Rhode Island, the son of the late Chester David Irons and the late Grace Barlow Irons.  He was the husband of the late Grace Dorothy Otton Irons.  Mr. Irons attended Brian College and was a maintenance engineer.  He was a former physical plant director for A. T. Cross Company for twenty-six years and for Mercer University in Macon.  Mr. Irons was a member of theTennille Masonic Lodge #256, the York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Al Sihah Shrine in Macon.  Mr. Irons was of the Methodist faith.  Mr. Irons was a former member of the Palestine Temple which is now the Rhode Island Shrine.  He was a member of the clown unit and won the tremp clown competition in Bangor Maine.  Mr. Irons was a past president of the Bibb County Lions Club.  He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He was a part of the first missile program at White Sands New Mexico.

Survivors are his sons, Bishop Dwight D. Irons and his wife Suzanne of Tennille and William Chester Irons of Macon; three grandchildren, Shannon Irons, April Irons and Dwight Edwin Irons.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
