JAMES L. “JIMMY” JONES

Mr. James L. “Jimmy” Jones, age 74, of Sandersville, died Monday, January 20, 2020 following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of May and Smith Funeral Home with burial in Brownwood Cemetery.  Reverend Wade Dawson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Freddy Davis, Adam Argoe, B.L. Brown, Lamar Doolittle, Bobby Anderson, Chris Hodges, Ben Amerson and Andy Jones.

Mr. Jones was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Ray Gilmore Jones and the late Grace Tanner Jones.  He was a 1964 graduate of Washington County High School.   Jimmy began a long career in Banking with the Tennille Banking Company prior to working for George D. Warthen Bank from which he retired.  He was a member of Sisters Baptist Church and loved to hunt and fish.  Jimmy was a family man and cherished the role of Grandfather.  He could often be seen working in his yard, his place of enjoyment and pride.  Jimmy is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Betty J. Upshaw, Jeanette J. Snider and Martina J. Hodges.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Louise L. Jones of Sandersville; children, Brad Jones of Atlanta and Terri J. Dawson and her husband Johnathan of Sandersville; grandsons, Logan Dawson and Jackson Dawson; siblings, Wilbur Jones and his wife Audrey, Warren Jones and his wife Judy, Danny Jones and his wife Loy, and Linda McDaniel and his brother-in-law Bobby Lindsey.

The family will be at the Dawson residence on West Church Street, Sandersville and they will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
