
Mr. Jesse Carey Hattaway Jr., age 76, of Hwy. 15 North, Sandersville, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 in an Augusta Hospital following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dr. Brian Welch will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.
Carey was lifelong native of Washington County, the son of the late Jesse Carey Hattaway Sr. and the late Helen Norris Hattaway. He graduated from Washington County High School and served in the Georgia National Guard. Carey was a longtime diesel mechanic beginning his working career with Jones Automotive prior to working for both B-H Transfer and Howard Sheppard Inc. Lastly, he worked for Cook Pecan Company where he served in numerous roles. Carey loved fishing and gardening from which he enjoyed sharing. He is predeceased by his son, Tracy Hattaway.
Survivors include his son, Paul Hattaway of Sandersville; grandchildren, Leslie Hinton and her husband Keith of Grovetown and Emily Howerton of Eastman; great grandchildren, Ava, Ben, Cloe, and Aubrey; sister-in-law, Wanda Hattaway of Sandersville; and best friends, Betsy Peck, Ralph Todd and Fred Peavy.
