A news release issued on Tuesday, March 31 from the Washington County Solicitor General’s Office stated that all individuals who violate the Declaration of a local State of Emergency issued by the Washington County Board of Commissioners will be prosecuted.

The news release affirms that individuals who fail to comply or violate Washington County’s “curfew” from 10:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M. will be charged with a misdemeanor and could receive a sentence of up to 12 months in jail. Violators could also receive a $1,000 fine upon conviction, pursuant to O.C.G.A 38-3-7 and Washington County Ordinance 14-5.

Individuals that congregate in groups of 10 or more people will also be prosecuted.

The Solicitor General’s Office asserts it will continue efforts to ensure that Washington County residents are safe and secure through aggressive and innovative prosecution.

The Solicitor General’s Office expresses understanding that these are uncertain and unprecedented times, but by working together and following the recommendation of local, state, and federal officials, the Washington County community can overcome the COVID-19 challenge.

The Washington County Solicitor General’s Office would like to thank everyone for their effort and cooperation during this time.

The Washington County State of Emergency prevents social gatherings of 10 or more people. It enacts a curfew imposed on non-essential travel from the hours of 10:00 P.M. – 6:00 A.M. This does not prevent business from operating with 10 or more employees. Work related travel, along with emergency situations, are exempted from the declaration.
