Douglas Anthony “Tony” Veal, age 66, of 291 West Adams Street, Tennille, died Sunday, April 12, 2020 in an Augusta Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate Tony’s life will be held at a later date to be announced by May and Smith Funeral Directors.
Tony was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Francis Wright Veal and the late Melba Lucile Martin Veal. He spent his entire working career with the Georgia Department of Transportation retiring after 34 years of service as district MAYES meter operator. He was a Christian man and a Baptist. Tony was an avid football fan who loved Georgia Tech. He also enjoyed following NASCAR and fishing. Tony was a dedicated, loving son, husband and stepfather. He was also very giving and devoted step grandfather and uncle. His memory, dry sense of humor and overprotective ways will be cherished by many.
Survivors are his wife, Marlene Garrard Veal of Tennille; stepchildren, Jennifer Boyd McLeod of Tennille and James Dennis “Jamie” Boyd IV and his wife Amanda of Springfield; seven step grandchildren; niece, Kim Kovansec of Alachua FL., and nephew, Kyle Kovansec of Canton and other extended family members.
