Mrs. Mable Hodges Sheppard, age 94 of Oconee died on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Washington County Extended Care Facility after a lengthy illness. An immediate family only graveside funeral service will be held at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille, Georgia.

Mrs. Sheppard was born in Washington County, Georgia, on February 8, 1926 and was the daughter of the late William Eugene Hodges and the late Mattie Mae Hodges. Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Aldine Sheppard; brothers, Billy Charles Hodges and Lucien Eugene Hodges; sisters, Ellen Hodges Fryhofer and Lynda Hodges Lindsey; niece, Mary Ellen Hodges; nephew, Lucien David Hodges; and three great granddaughters, Emily Louise Stewart, Madeline Grace Stewart and Lily Gwen Stewart.

Mrs. Sheppard was an active member of Antioch Christian Church in Oconee for many years where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir and served on the Ladies Council. She enjoyed sending cards to the sick and shut-ins for the church for many years. She also volunteered at Oconee Nursing Home as well as The Christian Life Center.

Mrs. Sheppard was a 1942 graduate of Tennille High School and a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Mu Sorority. Upon graduation she taught school in Hall, Jefferson, and Washington Counties, retiring with 31 years of service.

Mrs. Sheppard is survived by her sons and their wives, Michael Aldine Sheppard and Lynne of Riddleville and Emory Gene Sheppard and Virginia of Oconee; her grandchildren, William Eugene Sheppard and his wife Ginny of Oconee, Amy Sheppard Dew and her husband Mike of Bishop, and Louise Sheppard Stewart and her husband Mark of Oconee; great- grandchildren, Bryce Austin Sheppard, Jackson Paul “J.P.” Dew, Caleb Daniel Sheppard, Reece Myles Stewart and John Sheppard Dew.
