Winners of the Tennille Yard of the Quarter Competition Announced

At their Monday, June 1 City Council meeting, Tennille Mayor and Council announced the winners of the City’s “Yard of the Quarter” program.

This program is designed to recognize the hard work and pride exhibited by Tennille residents who beautify their yards.

According to Tennille Mayor Eartha Cummings, the beautification program was established to recognize Tennille City residents who have improved or maintained their yard and whose yard has a positive aesthetic appeal.

“This award is intended to inspire others to take pride in their yard, and to improve the overall quality of life in Tennille,” said Mayor Cummings.

Judges used the following criteria when selecting the exemplary yard:

– Yard must be well-groomed and maintained

– Tasteful landscaping – yard is attractive and pleasing to the eye

– Buildings, fences, porches, and patios on the property are in good repair

– Yard is free of litter, junk and debris – no appliances or indoor furniture on the porches or patios

– Yard is free of junk or inoperable vehicles, and there are no vehicles parked on the grass areas

– House numbers are displayed attractively

– Only the portion of the yard viewed from the street will be judged

– Good use of seasonal color

– Creativity and originality

– Overall appearance is pleasing

The judging panel included representatives from Sandersville, Wrens, and Macon.

The winners from each district are as follows:

District One

First Place: Brooke Kitchens

Second Place: Gloria Brantley

Third Place: Mattlyn Wimbley

District Two

First Place: Katye McCoy

Second Place: Bernice Strickland

Third Place: Carl Forrester

District Three

First Place: William Burgamy

Second Place: Ray Tennyson

Third Place: Kelly Long

Additionally, the City of Tennille announced the reopening of City Hall on Monday, June 16. The public is asked to practice a social distance of six (6) feet when inside the building, as well as to wear face masks and implement the use of hand sanitizer.
