Mrs. Jo Anne Marshall of Moultrie, Georgia, formerly of Sandersville, passed away Sunday, July 19 at Pruitt Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.  She was two weeks shy of her 80th birthday.  She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, F. M. Marshall, her daughter Dawn, her parents and her aunts.

Jo Anne’s parents were Miriam Bedgood and Mark Moat, but she was raised by her great aunt, Mary Walden and her aunts, Hazel Bedgood Metts and Edith Bedgood.  Mrs. Marshall grew up in Davisboro but moved to Sandersville while still in school.  She graduated from Sandersville High School as part of the class of ’58.  She played trumpet in the band and was a member of both the newspaper staff and the yearbook staff; however, she began attending most school events as a very young child because she was frequently with her Aunt Hazel who taught at the school.

Along with her husband, Mrs. Marshall owned and operated Pass-time Video where she enjoyed interacting with her customers until her health began to fail, and they closed the store.  She also enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, especially when they were children and she could spoil them. She was a member of Sandersville United Methodist Church where in the past, she sometimes sang in the choir and along with F. M., worked with the MYF for several years.  There are many young adults in Washington County that enjoyed going on adventures with them.

She is survived by three children, Candace Blatt (Mike), Mike Marshall (Penny), Moultrie; and Mary Jo Marshall (Tracy), Kokomo, Indiana; four grandchildren, Andrew Blatt, Seattle; Sam Blatt, Miami; Lauren Carswell, and Chandler Carswell, Atlanta; one great granddaughter, Hazel Blatt, Seattle; one sister-in-law, Mary Lene Brown (Curry), and one brother-in-law, Tommy Marshall (Joanie), Milledgeville, and several nieces and nephews.

Because of COVID-19, there will be a family only graveside service on Friday, July 24, at Washington County Memorial Gardens.  Friends and family are encouraged to share their memories and condolences and view her service on the May and Smith website.

May & Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of these arrangements.
